What is the first Kalima? Kalima Introduction

The first Kalima, also known as Kalima Tayyab (the word of purity), is the fundamental declaration of faith in Islam. The 1st Kalima Tayyab is divided into two essential segments.

The first part emphasizes Tawheed, affirming that there is no deity but Allah, which is the foundation of a Muslim’s faith.

The second part highlights Risalat, acknowledging Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) as the last prophet. Believing in both concepts is crucial for every Muslim, as it safeguards their faith and guides their actions in this world (Duniya) and the hereafter (Akhirah).

It states:

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ

What is the meaning of La ilaha illallah?

The meaning of La ilaha illallah muhammadur rasulullah is:

“There is none worthy of worship except God (Allah), and Muhammad is the messenger of God.”

Who created 6 Kalimas?

The six Kalimas are not found altogether in any one hadith or mentioned in the Quran. They are widely memorized by Muslims as they teach fundamental beliefs about Allah and Islam.

However, the practice of reciting these six Kalimas as a set was not present during the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The first Kalima is derived from verses of the Quran, while the other five are supplications (duas) that were later compiled as a set.

Kalima Tayyab Hadiths

It was narrated from Mu’adh bin Jabal that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“There is no soul that died bearing witness to La ilaha illallah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, from the heart with certainty, but Allah will forgive it.”

When to recite Kalima?

Muslims are encouraged to recite the Kalima often, as it is a powerful remembrance of Allah. It is particularly emphasized to recite it at the time of death, as mentioned in this hadith:

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

‘urge your dying ones to say La ilaha illallah.”

What are the benefits of reciting 1st Kalima?

Benefits of Reciting the First Kalima are:

  1. Tawheed: Affirming the Oneness of Allah is the foundation of Islam. Allah created us to worship Him alone.
  2. Purpose of Life: Submitting to Allah and living according to His Shariah is the true purpose of our creation.
  3. Forgiveness: Bearing witness to the Kalima with certainty leads to forgiveness from Allah.
  4. Paradise: Sincerely reciting the Kalima is a means to enter Paradise, as mentioned in the hadith: “Whoever says LA ILAHA ILLA ALLAH sincerely, will enter Paradise”.
