Surah Al Ghashiya English Translation:

  • Has the story of the overwhelming (event) reached you?
  • Some faces, that Day, will be humbled,
  • Laboring and exhausted.
  • They will enter to burn in an intensely hot Fire.
  • They will be given to drink from a boiling spring.
  • No food will there be for them except from a poisonous thorny plant,
  • Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.
  • Some faces, that Day, will be bright,
  • Looking at their Lord.
  • And some faces, that Day, will be contorted,
  • Expecting that there will be inflicted upon them a backbreaking blow.
  • No! When the soul has reached the collarbones
  • And it is said, “Who will cure [him]?”
  • And he is certain that it is the [final] separation
  • And the leg is intertwined with the leg,
  • That Day, the drive will be to your Lord.
  • So as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
  • He will be judged with an easy account
  • And return to his people in happiness.
  • But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
  • He will cry out for destruction
  • And enter to burn in a blaze.
  • Indeed, he was among his people in happiness.
  • Indeed, he thought he would never return [to Allah].
  • No! Indeed, his Lord was, of him, Observant.
  • So I swear by the twilight,
  • And by the night and what it envelops,
  • And by the moon when it becomes full,
  • You will surely experience from one state to another.
  • So what is [the matter] with them that they do not believe,
  • And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not prostrate?
  • But those who have disbelieved deny.
  • And Allah is Knowing of the corruptors.
  • So give tidings of a painful punishment to those who disbelieve,
  • Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
