Surah Al Ghashiya English Translation:
- Has the story of the overwhelming (event) reached you?
- Some faces, that Day, will be humbled,
- Laboring and exhausted.
- They will enter to burn in an intensely hot Fire.
- They will be given to drink from a boiling spring.
- No food will there be for them except from a poisonous thorny plant,
- Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.
- Some faces, that Day, will be bright,
- Looking at their Lord.
- And some faces, that Day, will be contorted,
- Expecting that there will be inflicted upon them a backbreaking blow.
- No! When the soul has reached the collarbones
- And it is said, “Who will cure [him]?”
- And he is certain that it is the [final] separation
- And the leg is intertwined with the leg,
- That Day, the drive will be to your Lord.
- So as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
- He will be judged with an easy account
- And return to his people in happiness.
- But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
- He will cry out for destruction
- And enter to burn in a blaze.
- Indeed, he was among his people in happiness.
- Indeed, he thought he would never return [to Allah].
- No! Indeed, his Lord was, of him, Observant.
- So I swear by the twilight,
- And by the night and what it envelops,
- And by the moon when it becomes full,
- You will surely experience from one state to another.
- So what is [the matter] with them that they do not believe,
- And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not prostrate?
- But those who have disbelieved deny.
- And Allah is Knowing of the corruptors.
- So give tidings of a painful punishment to those who disbelieve,
- Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

The word “al-ghishiyah” from the first verse is the source of the Surah’s name.
