Twenty-nine verses (ayat) make up the eighty-first sura (sura) of the Qur’an, At-Takwīr (Arabic: التكوير), which translates to “The Turning Into a Sphere.” It describes the indications that the Day of Judgment is approaching.

The first verse of this Surah, “إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ” (When the sun is wrapped up), contains the term “كُوِّرَتْ,” which is the root of the word “التكوير,” which means “The Enfolding.” Most likely in the early days of Muhammad’s declaration of his prophetic status, this Surah was revealed in Mecca.

The Hereafter and the establishment of prophethood are the main themes of the Surah. The Last Day is partially described in the Surah, which interestingly tells the story of the end of the world. All celestial creatures and natural powers alike
