Al Naba Surah Introduction

The Quran’s seventy-eigth surah (An Naba). It consists of forty ayat, or verses in Quran pak. Moreover, It is also known as “The Announcement” or “The Tidings” in Arabic (النبأ, an-nabaʼ).

The worldly creation—the earth, plants, peace at night, mountains, and rain—is celebrated in the first twenty verses. The last twenty verses, on the other hand, are devoted to the everlasting wonders and horrors of the hereafter, depicting the punishment of the angry sinner (the Arabic triliteral root TGY “taagheena”) in stark contrast to the reward of obedient believers in paradise. TGY uses the Arabic triliteral root WQY, which means “muttaqeena,” as a lyrical parataxis. (Reference)

a ˹fitting˺ reward as a generous gift from your Lord,

the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, the Most Compassionate. No one will dare speak to Him

on the Day the ˹holy˺ spirit1 and the angels will stand in ranks. None will talk, except those granted permission by the Most Compassionate and whose words are true.

That Day is the ˹ultimate˺ truth. So let whoever wills take the path leading back to their Lord.

Indeed, We have warned you of an imminent punishment—the Day every person will see ˹the consequences of˺ what their hands have done, and the disbelievers will cry, “I wish I were dust.”1

Benefits of Surah An Naba

Sleep and Rest in Alignment with Nature

“And made your sleep for rest, and made the night as a cover,”

is a classic line that you have undoubtedly heard of (78:9–10).

Their source is Surah An-Naba. The Holy Quran explicitly mentions Day and Night in An-Naba, and contemporary science is now more convinced than ever of their significance to humans’ natural sleeping patterns.

Harsh Consequences for the Wrongdoers

“Taste the punishment, for all you will receive from Us is more torment,”

is what Allah says will be told to the deniers. (Surat 78:30).

This passage refutes the assertion that the inmates of Hell receive perpetual torment upon their death.

Deepen Spiritual Awareness

It accomplishes this by using extremely vivid imagery that will leave us with an unforgettable impression of the Hereafter, keeping the reality of the Afterlife and the Day of Judgment at the forefront of our thoughts.

When righteous individuals visualize their reward, for instance, they see gardens, vineyards, maidens, glasses of pure wine, and no frivolous chatter. A life lived to the fullest extent possible.

The Science of Mountain Stabilization

According to 78:7, Allah said, “and made the mountains as its pegs.”

This suggests that the mountains may have roots as deep into the Earth as twice as high as their height—something that humanity has not found for ages.

Inspiring Self-Reflection

Once more, the detailed description applies to both disbelievers and the rewarded Muslims. I was reading this Surah when not on Allah’s road can cause one to envision horrifying images such as transgressors being swallowed by Hell, going without food or drink, seeing only boiling water and pus flowing!

Reading about such an intentional punishment should provoke introspection and lead to sincere repentance.

Influence on the Prophet

It is one of the Suras that contributed to the aging of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

I questioned the Prophet (peace be upon him), saying, “What made you grow old?”

According to Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq. He mentioned the names of Surat Hud, Al-Waqi’a, Al-Mursalat, ‘Amma Yatasa’aloon (An-Naba’), and Idha al-Shamsu Kuwwirat (Al-Takwir).
