Surah Al-Falak: Arabic Text, Translations, PDF | Quran 113
Mu’awwidhatayn, which translates to “two Surahs for seeking refuge,” refers to both Surahs (Al-Falak and An-Nas) because of their shared subject of protection. They were revealed together and have a tight relationship despite being distinct in the Mushaf. According to Imam Baihaqi, the two Surahs address related topics and were revealed simultaneously. Falaq Surah Period of Revelation
- There is debate about their period of revelation:
- According to some scholars, such as ‘Ikrimah and Hadrat Hasan Basri, they are Makki (revealed in Makkah).
- According to other accounts, they were revealed at Madinah, namely when the Prophet was subjected to magic, particularly from Hadrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas and Hadrat ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir.
- Both in Makkah and later in Madinah, these Surahs were revealed when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was facing fierce opposition.
Theme and Subject Matter of Falaq Sorat
- Disbelievers and adversaries fiercely opposed the Prophet ﷺ.
- To hurt him, they employed magic, sinister rumours, and cunning schemes.
- These Surahs offer protection from the malevolence of these powers, which include jealous people and magicians.
- The Surahs serve as a reminder to believers that Allah is all-powerful and that no evil can ever hurt those who put their trust in Him.
- The themes are similar to those of prophets who sought refuge in Allah and persevered in the face of formidable foes.
